Hi,

any boardgamers from Tel Aviv who can point me to any boardgame shops or boardgaming cafes in Tel Aviv? I'll be there for two weeks from the 18th and would like to check out the boardgaming scene there. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

How is your Hebrew?

Look at http://www.boardgames.co.il run by Gilad Yarnitzky (ycyclop), and the Tapuz.co.il forum on boardgames: http://www.tapuz.co.il/tapuzforum/main/anashim.asp?forum=800...

There is a monthly game at a game store called Freak. There is also some occasional games organized by Yaron Racah's (yaron) group.

Tel Aviv is only 45 minutes from Jerusalem and I have a weekly game group on Wed evenings. Contact me for more information, or see http://www.freewebs.com/jergames . We speak English at the group.

In case you don't know hebrew so well, here are some shops and sites located in and around Tel-Aviv.

http://www.pundak.co.il/ though more role-playing, still has some board games. Also known is the shop "Freak" (www.freak.org.il, site in hebrew)
which has 2 main locations:Veitzman 14 (pronounced Va'Aye'tzmaan), Tel Aviv, Veizman Center mall, First floor, bigger location, more role-playing and board gaming.Once there was also a store in Even Gavirol Street(pronounced ev'en gav'ee'role). Second is the Herzelia store which you probably won't want to go to.

Once there was an "Assembly" but I don't know what happened to it.
Just ask people, and avoid North African Cab drivers (as they will not understand a word).

I was just in Israel a few weeks ago. I was extremely impressed by how easy it was for me to get around, even though I speak no Hebrew.

Well, golly. I didn't think I needed to make my invitation more public, but if anyone is coming to Israel, please look me up and we'll play. Wed night is game night, but other nights are possible.

Thanks for the advice, folks. I've been to Israel before but that was before I became a boardgame geek! I'll be in Tel Aviv for the two weeks for work, with not much time for R&R. Some other time, perhaps, Yehuda.
