I can't be the only one that finds this offensive, right? Why would BGG allow content like this to be displayed on a family-friendly site? A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well what words is this ad saying?

As there is currently no feature that allows users to mark ads as explicit/inappropriate, could you please sensor the advertisement so that we don't

Sorry, this is the first I've seen of this one, as it must be coming through Adsense. If we can find out the URL it directs to, we can block it as best as possible. Sorry that this one is slipping through our filters!

I haven't seen that one but have seen others for Wartune with the warning that you will be spending all your time on that sight.

And I'm sure the "sights" are exactly what that site wants you to spend your time on.

Unfortunately that isn't the only Wartune ad on BGG. There are others as well, one of them I just saw I'd say is even more demeaning than the one posted above.

We've blocked them before, but they've circumvented Adsense by changing their domains - looks like they have about 5 active domains for this "game".

Just to give some advertising the other way: I played Wartunes for about 3 minutes. It sucks.

So your friend didn't see much of you for 3 minutes. While you were..umm...inside.

Side note: It is interesting that Wartune assumes its users have at least one friend. whistle

I read that as "exactly one friend".

What? They misuse "sight" for "site"?! That is offensive indeed!

The wart line typically appears after the titillating action.

I've been seeing wartunes ads for a while now -- maybe a month. Every time someone complains about similar ads, the response is ALWAYS: "well, uh, I haven't seen it so I don't know what you're talking about. Sorry." ....or, even more irritatingly: "well, you know, these ads are targeted to your viewing habits, so what sort of stuff have you been looking at?" These comments are insulting and ignorant. Fortunately, BGG can't deny it this time because the OP included a screen shot.

While personally, I'm not offended by these ads, I sure as h*** wouldn't want my wife and kid to see this stuff, or even see me looking at a BGG page with this stuff. This particular ad isn't even as extreme as some of the banners I've seen on BGG.

I find it disappointing that BGG takes such a blasé attitude to user complaints. However, I understand BGG is a business and has to make money.

I guess directly telling half the population that they should not play the game is one way of avoiding too high a load on the game's servers...

There is a carbon copy of this thread here. Many options outlined for you to be proactive instead of waiting for BGG to change how the internet works, some even without not taking ad money from BGG.

P.S. THIS is considered explicit by some people?! WHat is this, the 20s?

I've interacted with a number of the admins over the years. I just haven't detected the "blasé attitude" to which you allude. Yes BGG takes ads to make money. But they have gone to great lengths to try to block such sexually suggestive "games."

Every play the game "whack-a-mole" at the fair? You block one site and another pops up. It is a never ending process.

I did web development for a website. Trying to whack spam before it got to the email addresses of the chapter officers was just such a battle. Until you get in the trenches you don't realize how much spam is filtered before it gets to your account.

So, all in all, I just don't think your comment about this is fair.

QFT

Explicit? Not by any definition of the word, as regards to the character artwork.

Suggestive? Sure, but of what? High temperature climate? Regional shortage of sheep (blame Catan!), weavers, and/or tailors? Or, oh dear lord save us, vile, nasty EVIL sex? (oops, that concept seems to offend people for some reason. Strike it! Should probably have it removed from the language, actually.) Yup, probably one of those, it's your imagination that chooses which you want it to be.

While I couldn't care less about this type of advertising one way or the other, I admit I don't have kids living with me. I do have children here fairly often (my roommate is a full-time nanny and also babysits), and I just make sure to be aware of what's onscreen where they can see, the same as I do with any other website, movie/TV, personal language, etc.

What I really just don't get are the Puritanical responses to ads and games much more subdued than this one. You're the parent...parent! Stop expecting the world to do it for you, it's not the worlds job. If something accidentally raises questions, GOOD! Answer them, discuss them...parent! I'm glad Chaddyboy does such an excellent job screening advertisers, but ultimately it's a courtesy. He's not going to censor the billboards you drive past on the way to dropping your kids at school, the (non-porn) magazine covers on the magazines on the gas station counter, or the Abercrombie posters at the mall (dunno, I don't go, I'm guessing).

Since you seem to have no problem with unsolicited advice, perhaps you'd like me to tell you where you can stick your opinion. Seriously...you don't have to agree with others' opinions to respect them. Don't be THAT guy. If you want to debate what constitutes "explicit" or not, start a thread in RSP.

Welcome to the Interwebs.

By posting at all, it is implicit (see the difference?) that opinions have been solicited and might be presented. And they might not agree with your own.
