With Summer of 1862 practically done. See here.

After cleaning up the admin side of things (no more ITs or wounds), we move the turn marker to Spring of 1863.

The Union wins initiative due to having 33 PCs to the CSA's 8.

We begin the purchasing phase by purchasing two fleets at 2 PC each.

We promote Hooker and Reynolds as well as Meade to two stars. We would have promoted Sherman but due to Grant only being two stars we could not at this time do so as it would have gone over the stacking limits.

We also purchase 8 CSPs to leave us at 15 PCs total.

The CSA is up.

Not much for the CSA to do with 8PCs.

We will promote Cavalry leader Wheeler, who is under Bragg, in Kentucky. And Will promote Ashby, who is under Lee in W.V. Which knocks the South to 4 PC and the absolute minimum we can have.

We do not buy any Naval units.

The CSA will kick it back to the Union. They can go ahead and make my Raiding Rolls for the Naval Phase.

Gordon,

Are you not moving your naval units currently on the board?

Go ahead and move them to one that doesn't have a Union Fleet in it if you can. Thanks.

Did naval moves for both and my attempts to sink raiders failed horribly. The Union however did blockade Charleston SC.

Forgot to do reinforcements so I did it for both sides.

It did not affect the naval side of things.

And, finally, I moved up to 5 stars (I think it was a total of 4) via rail as per my rail move.

The CSA is up for their rail move.

I moved Wilder from Ohio to Cairo as well as McClernand from St. Louis to Cairo. Thomas & Co. went from Columbus to Lexington.

The South does their Rail Movement:

Move General HOOD to LEE'S army and I move LONGSTREET to LEE'S army as well:

That was my 3 stars worth of Rail Movement.

Back to the Union to pick their cards--I was going to pick mine now, but will wait to see what the Union does or wants me to do.

As it is now:

I think that Lee's army might be too big for the mountains as only a max 6 star army can traverse and be in the mountains.

That's the exact same problem I had in my recent game, when Bragg was asked to reinforce Hill and ran into the mountain problem. Damn Davis, can't he get ANYTHING right!!!

Okay, well. Not a huge deal, I guess. Hood Instead of going to Lee will head to Richmond instead. Confederate mistake corrected.

Back to the Union for Card Draw.

The Union will keep the initiative in the Operations Phase.

We can draw 8 cards for this turn due to the fact that we played all of our cards last turn.

For one of those cards we choose to put into our hands the Campaign Card for Kentucky/Tennessee.

So we that, we begin!

We use this card:

to activate "Stonewall" Lyon in Jefferson City to make his way down to Springfield and evict Price's army from it.

Price can retreat... will he?

Price will try to retreat. I rolled a "6" and I believe that does it. If I did it wrong, let me know. I retreat Price. I'll let you clean things up and then I'll take the my first turn.

Also, the CSA drew their 8 cards as well.

This might be stupid, but we are going to play this card for the Event:

So, our mighty army scares "Stonewall" Lyon right back out of the city and Price makes himself comfortable once again. The South gains 2 PC.

Back to the Union.

This is going to be a tough year for the South. I was able to claw back up to a whole 6 PC after that nice little gambit.

Too many plans really... Having the upper hand PC wise and CSP wise does not alleviate the nagging thought that my grand plan for this game turn might not be the right one.

Great counter by the CSA, Gordon.

My turn will be up later tonight.

I hope it's okay to post this but with our Civil War theme and all . . .

The above link is to a camera overlooking the field where Pickett's Charge occurred. It's my understanding that at 3:00 p.m. ET, there will be some kind of reenactment of the charge. (Don't hold me to that though.)
