Hey guys. Still sort of new to Netrunner, and I've decided that I want to go with Jinteki as my main corporation.

I love Chum and I think it's a great piece of ICE, however I'm trying to figure out what it pairs best with. I was originally going with Data Raven to make a STR 6 Sentry with some glorious tagging abilities, but my deck doesn't really have much to benefit from that. I've switched over to Eli 1.0 as my mainstay due to its efficiency.

But other Jinteki guys - what do you usually pair Chum with? Data Mine? Thornwall?

Thanks!

Data Mine... I've even been using it on Whirlpool for some very fun times.

Chum, Whirlpool then force them to access a several advanced Aggressive Secretary. Haha.

Chum is Yog.0 proof too.

Data Mine and Chimera are great, as they require, or almost require a generic breaker. Or, just any ice that is going to be tough/impossible for the runner to break....

Neural Katana. A 5 str Sentry that does 6 net damage. Have fun with that.

Another Chum after my tower of ICE has been reduced to a single Chum by parasites.

The illustrious Double Chum strategy, otherwise known as Yummy Chum Chum. The complete effect requires yet a third Chum in front of the second Chum in front of the first.

I've had some decent success with chum + archer or Janus, as most people don't expect Jinteki to carry those cards and are pushed away from their thinking when 'mathing' what ice could be behind chum. Even better if you have Corp. Troubleshooter, but that is just wishful thinking trying to pull off that 3+ card combo in a Jinteki deck.

I wouldn't choose Eli, actually. It just makes it even better to break it with two clicks.

The best Chum target is Hunter.

In practice:

Chum in front of things they cannot break. Chum in front of things they have not yet revealed if they don't have all breakers and lots of money. Chum in front of anything they would want to repeatedly run, because in terms of cost to play vs. cost to break, Chum is one of the best pieces of ice in the game.

I get a chuckle when runners Femme the ICE behind Chum instead of Chum itself.

That's because the Runner has already had too much net/brain damage that their brain cells have started to seep into and mix with their bed pan collections.

Draco. This works best in replicating perfection with a deck built around big money (it's possible, I promise).

Put them in front of a fetal ai or a snare and save 4 credits. Unless they're going to win this turn, spend all your money (except the 4) pumping Draco on the first turn and you've got an impenetrable fortress for the future. You'll force them to either put out a non-yog code care breaker or take 3 net damage every time they run that server. Put a sensei down after that and you've got something invincible to anything other than faerie.

chum anything is fun and awesome if runner is unprepared. then they stop and try and figure out if its worth continuing or not. its quite entertaining. splashing chum into a faction other than jinteki is quite fun too! or using chum in jinteki, with an out of faction ICE they don't expect, like a flare, or an archer or something

And the most fun is when they FAO (edit sorry bad habit: Forged Activation Order) the Pop-up Window so they can figure out whether or not Chum will eat them

Early on Ichi 1.0 isn't much of a threat when the runner doesn't have any programs out, but if you put a Chum in front of Ichi, then it really slows them down since they have to break all the subroutines regardless of whether or not they have programs out (otherwise taking damage from Chum).

Data Raven. Usually when people see a Data Raven they like to not take the tag and end the run. If they don't break chum, they'll have to take that tag or take the net damage.

Anything you don't want Criminal using Inside Job on.

Anything unrezzed. Is the runner really going to want to continue the run after triggering a Chum?

Lots of people like to use the special ability of Femme Fatale on Tollbooth. Chum stops that.

Chum + Whirlpool is fun. Don't put Whirlpool in your deck though.

Whirlpool. By far. If the runner is forced into a Fetal AI or 2 advance Junebug it's game over.

Other prime candidates in order of preference:

Chimera
Data Mine
Any Sentry, as those are the hardest to break at higher strengths, which include:
Hunter/Caduceus
Data Raven/Draco
Archer/Ichi
