As anyone tried playing this hardcore? ie once your last character in your party dies, you are out of the game?

No, you won't be out of the game when one of your character dies. The game continues when all your party members die.

yes I realise that. I was wondering if anyone had played Anima Hardcore.
Hardcore is a general gaming term which evokes difficulty and changes your play style in RPGs. In short, in a normal game, when your character dies, it gets resurrected. In hardcore, once your character dies, that it. game over.

Has anyone tried applying this to Anima?

apologies for having been unclear

The randomness in this game is so high that it could leave someone bored for an hour through no fault of their own.

I'd love to see a cool set of rules, but in a way, this game wants to keep the spirit of exploration high and not have setbacks clobber you too badly/knock you out of the game.
