Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation – from a good point of view

The Barrow-Wight (that’s me) and Saucepan squared off for a slow-paced but fun, cyberboarded game of Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation. We play a lot of games by cyberboard, usually with several different ones going at once. This game started on December 26 and ended on February 14.

- Everyone edged forward for several turns without conflict until Orcs, attacking out of Mirkwood, were unfortunate enough to attack Gimli in the Misty Mountains, where they were immediately dispatched.

- Boromir ran into Wargs in Moria and was slain.

- The Wargs rushed out of the dwarf mines to find Aragorn waiting in Enedwaith. With a flash of his sword, the beasts were gone.

- Several more turns of maneuvering ended with Pippin scouting into the Gap of Rohan to find Shelob waiting there. The young hobbit retreated back to the side of Aragorn in Enedwaith.

- Gandalf investigated the recently reoccupied Moria to discover the Balrog had risen from the depths. With A Noble Sacrifice, both the monster and the wizard met their dooms.

- Sauron again directed his forces into Moria, and Pippin scouted into the dark to see who was there. It was Saruman! Pippin ran back to Aragorn.

- The wicked wizard followed the hobbit but met Aragorn instead. Saruman used his magic to rob Aragorn of the use of any tools, and both he and the Ranger were slain. Pippin was left without a guardian.

- Pippin had forgotten about the giant spider in the Gap, and probed there again, provoking Shelob to chase him into Enedwaith. But Sauron was unsure of the hobbit’s cabability, and he unexpectedly direct Shelob to retreat into Eregion.

- Pippin ran into Moria, but Shelob struck into Arthedain where Frodo and Sam were hiding. The spider jumped at Frodo, but Sam intervened and used his Elven cloak to hinder her attack. Both Sam and Shelob died.

- The Flying Nazgul attacked Frodo, who escaped into Cardolan where a friend awaited.

- Pippin scouted into Fangorn to find The Black Rider, but, unlike his usual method, he chose to stand in fight. His plan was to use magic to retreat, but The Black Rider dispelled his magic and killed the hobbit.

- The Black Rider then rushed at full speed through Moria, across Eregion, and into Cardolan to find Legolas defending Frodo. Both combatants used multiple magics, which ended in The Black Rider retreating into Arthedain.

- The Flying Nazgul attacked Merry in Mirkwood and killed the poor hobbit.

- Gimli entered Dagorlad and was immediately pounced upon by the Flying Nazgul. The dwarf died.

- Frodo and Legolas moved into Eregion without incident while Sauron occupied The Shire with one character.

- Legolas passed through Moria to attack the Witch King in Fangorn, but the chief Nazgul slipped way into Rohan.

- The Flying Nazgul attacked Frodo in Eregion, but Frodo escaped to Rhudaur and then moved into the Misty Mountains.

- The Witch King returned to Fangorn to attack Legolas again, and Legolas made a Noble Sacrifice to slay himself and his foe.

- Frodo entered Fangorn.

- The Flying Nazgul attacked Frodo, but Frodo evaded again, running into Mirkwood and then proceeding to Dagorlad.

- Sauron conceded defeat. sobluesauronsoblue

I was wondering the same thing! Frodo must have used the ring to control the Flying Nazgul and convinced him not to move. That's the only explanation.

Just like in the book, Sauron was distracted by an enemy approaching his gates and missed his chance to bag the hobbit.

This was only our second time playing this, and I'm sure Sauron won't make that mistake again.

I'd be interested in the CyberBoard files for this, but I don't see anything in the links or files section. Could you let us know where to find them?
