Hi everyone. Below is my profile for those interested - it may not be always up to date but should usually reflect my tastes up to the last time stamp. I'm a big fan of board, card, video, and other games and pass in and out of hobbies on this site and a few others. I also have a variety of other interests like reading and watching shows, and I try to be friendly, so feel free to message if you wanna chat about anything.

Favorite Board Games:

Top Want To Play/Own Board Games (trying to keep this to games I've at least tried to reduce blind buys that I dislike):

Other Favorites:
Mechanics/Categories: Role Selection, Sandbox, Auction, Engine Building, Tech Trees, Action Point Allocation, Yahtzee Re-Rolling, Logical Deduction/Induction, Multiplayer Abstract, Euros in general
Themes: Civilization, Superheroes, Anime/Cartoon esque, City-Building or Building in General
Video Reviewer(s)/Run-through-er(s): Jon from JonGetsGames, Honorable Mention to Joel Eddy from DriveThru Reviews
Designers: Friedman Friese, Reiner Knizia, Sid Sackson, Honorable Mentions to David Sirlin for his many iterative works that build upon previous ideas, Andreas Steding, and Ted Alspach
Artists: Josh Cappel, Michael Menzel (love their art in stuff like Belfort, Cuba, etc)
Company/Publisher: Tasty Minstrel Games (best board game boxes and quality for things like Orleans and Belfort), Honorable Mention to Cool Mini or Not for many of their amazing miniatures games (like in Arcadia Quest and Blood Rage)

Random Info:

My ratings may seem on the lower side, but that's probably because I follow the BGG descriptions pretty exactly. For example, while I may acknowledge a game as a "decent" game, it may be the kind of game that fits the "4" description as something that's "Not so good - but could play again" for me personally.

Anyway, I really love this hobby, and its one of my favorite ways to pass the time. I'd love to game more if I could, but its really hard with all the factors of life affecting me and my friends/family. But, I really hope I can continue to enjoy this hobby, because its provided me with some really nice memories.

My "Top 10" for BGG is my favorite 10 board games, ranked, but the ranks may possibly swap around a bit here and there or even drop off, depending on my mood or more plays. I have usually played all of these at least once since it usually requires more than 1 play to reach my top 10. My "Hot 10" for BGG is the 10 games I would most like to own and/or play, ranked, and it usually corresponds to my Wishlist and Want to Buy too. For new games to get, I try to get ones that offer unique experiences/mechanics that I dont have or are already established mechanics that I like a lot. I also focus on games that will get played - even if I love a 3 hour euro, if it can't get to the table, itss meaningless to me, sadly. Other factors include table space, colorblind friendliness, learning curve, depth/replay-ability, playing time, components, and also what my fellow gamers/friends think of the game.

Favorite RPG Systems:

Favorite Role-Playing System: Dungeons and Dragon (Honorable Mention to Big Eyes Small Mouth)
Favorite Character Class: Rogue/Thief (love their cleverness and focus on outwitting and outmaneuvering the enemy, plus I enjoy looting valuable gear)
Favorite Character Race: Dragonborn (always loved dragons, as they're my favorite mythological creature)
Favorite Dice: D6 (so efficient and sensible from a design standpoint!)
Favorite Monster: Dragons (mainly the European style with wings and feet and claws, not the snake-like, long Asian style dragons)
Favorite Weapon: Spiked Maces, then Chains with Hooks/Knives Attached
Favorite Aesthetic: Anime (Honorable Mention to Cartoon Art Styles)

The main RPG I have played is some variation of Dungeons and Dragons, near 3.5 edition or so. I played that in a few different sessions and iterations and also Big Eyes Small Mouth (aka Anime DnD in my opinion) and maybe some other RPG/RPG esque ones. (I also played some video game RPGs, but that's a different beast IMO.) I have also tried Numenera and perhaps some other systems.

I really love DnD/RPGs for their variety and flair and imagination and storytelling abilities. I like how limitless you are in the stories you tell, the lore available, the worlds you can be in (fictional or realistic, cartoony/anime-esque/etc) and just how nearly endlessly replayable and imaginative they are.

I do think they have some issues - they take a bit to get into, need the right group and mentality, are usually a large time commitment, and they're not for everyone...but in my opinion, for when everyone/everything coalesces and meshes together, you can get a truly wonderful experience.

Favorite Video Games:

Want To Play Games:

Other Favorites:
Storyline: Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Honorable Mentions to Chrono Trigger and Bomberman 64
Home Console: PS2 (most games I like on a singular console I can play since it has PS1 included too), PC (I like the variety on PC and how easy it is to connect to internet and stuff)
Portable Console: DS (has most games I liked), then 3DS, then GBA
Controller: PS4 Controller
Company: Nintendo (I've just loved so many of their games more than others, and even though they're "gimmicky", they're also fairly innovative with things like motion control and games like Pokemon Snap and such)
Genres/Themes/Categories: Monster Tamer, MMO, Turn-Based RPGs (as long as it either stimulates me mentally, is addicting, is highly customizable, or some combination thereof), Card Games, and to a lesser extent: fighting games with simple controls (such as SSB/PSABR), 3D Platformers, Visual Novels, Sandbox/Building/Simulation Games

Taste-wise, I like a lot of different games, and its hard to tell what genres specifically. There are some genres like shooters and driving games that I think I very explicitly dislike, and I also dislike some random nitpicks like first person point of view or anything with too much text. I like games that can get me into the action and gameplay right away. I don't like frustration from puzzles, but there are some puzzle games I've really enjoyed. I don't need story as much, but a good story can indeed enhance the experience.

Overall, I think I like more lighthearted games with an emphasis on good mechanics/variety/customization. I need the core gameplay to be very good. Some examples of genres I like are monster taming games (like Pokemon, Dragon Quest Monsters, etc), some battle royale esque fighters (like Super Smash Bros, Power Stone, or Playstation All Stars but not the technical button sequence ones like Street Fighter or Marvel VS Capcom), MMOs/MMO-esque games (like Fantasy Life or Monster Hunter ish) and general games where you build/explore/adventure/craft/forge/make. I also value a lot of customization, like when you can combine abilities or items or choose a lot of different skills to make your character.

Aside from some fighting games, I mainly prefer to play solo (I like board games more for multiplayer), but there are some multiplayer games I'd probably be okay with, such as Dokapon Kingdom and maybe some small few others. I also dislike chance and luck in my games, and I also dislike when games are unfair or things like losing too much time for dying before reaching a save point. I am okay with either 2D or 3D as long as the graphics are at some bare minimum - I don't need hyper-realistic graphics and actually prefer cartoony or anime esque graphics.

Regardless of my peculiar tastes though, I hope to widen my gaming experiences and continue to enjoy more in the future.

My "Top 10" for VGG is my favorite 10 video games, ranked, but the lower ranks may possibly swap around a bit here and there or even drop off, depending on my mood or more plays. The only condition is that I have played the game (preferably to completion at least once) or at least gotten very far and gotten a very clear idea of the core gameplay/story/etc. They also do not necessarily correlate with ratings (so a 10 may not necessarily be my #1 game). My "Hot 10" for VGG is the 10 games I would most like to play usually, ranked, where #1 is my most want to play game, #2 is my second most desired game to try out, etc. I mainly have games that I want to either experience because it has unique aspects I've never tried or its a game that I think I will like based on its gameplay/reviews and my tastes. Unlike board games, I don't seek to own all my favorite video games, though I may one day, just for having them as keepsakes.

VGG Notes:
-update from 3DS backlog/owned and previously owned games ratings
-fave genres: monster tamer, MMO esque games, scavenging/foraging game, JRPG turn based but not tactical that is mentally stimulating or unique mechanics, maybe open world action rpg too?, high customization rpg
-interesting mechanics: challenge anyone/steal/morph into items/etc
-update want to play, esp with thoughts from Zeldas/Mario Galaxies, platformers not being liked much anymore etc.
-there will always be new updates to current franchises that refine and improve. So it comes down to: what will offer new experiences that I have not tried, gameplay wise and would enjoy playing? Not necessarily games I'll like but games that I enjoy/want to try out for the experience? If I play Game X in a franchise and its well representative of the franchise, that alone may be enough and then I can experience other genres and game experiences, always seeking out something fun, new, and innovative. I ramble but ultimately, it comes down to what I want as a gamer and what I seek. What is fun? What is a cool, enlightening new experience? What is a fun/worthwhile passtime for my time? Etc.

Other Stuff:

Aside from BoardGameGeek/RPGGeek/VideoGameGeek, I also have a BoardGameArena, MyAnimeList, Meetups, GoodReads, and some other accounts, so feel free to reach out if you wanna buddy up, game, or just talk about any of these things!

If you have any recommendations for things based on my ratings, please feel free to reach out and let me know too! I always appreciate new things to look into and experience (I also try to comment why I may like or dislike some things alongside my rating, so if you'd like, you can check out my ratings and comments for some recommendation/ideas too.)
