The Great Machine Awakens

The ancient golem Numidium, a powerful weapon once used by the great Tiber Septim to unify Tamriel, has been found in Iliac Bay. In the power struggle that follows, the King of Daggerfall is murdered and his spirit haunts the kingdom. The Emperor Uriel Septim VII sends his champion to the province of High Rock to put the king’s spirit to rest and ensure that the golem does not fall into the wrong hands.

Daggerfall featured a massive true 3D world the size of Great Britain, and helped usher in a gaming renaissance in 1996. The full version of Daggerfall is available for download and playable through a DOS emulator vis the official game website.

Trivia:

• There are 750,000+ non-player characters for the player to interact with, however, they are much less detailed than later games.
• Daggerfall is the largest game in the Elder Scrolls franchise at 62 square miles; Skyrim is just 16 square miles.
• Daggerfall is more random than other Elder Scrolls games. Characters come in two varieties: static and dynamic. Static characters give quests, while dynamic characters spawn every day to walk around cities. Characters can spawn with a variety of names.
• Redguards living in High Rock often have Breton names.
• Daggerfall is notoriously buggy to the extent that it may be impossible to complete.
