MotoGP 08 is the first game in the MotoGP franchise to be released after Capcom acquired sole rights to the Grand Prix license. The game is based on the 2008 season.
The game straddles the line between simulation and arcade racing, offering modes and options to suit both types of player. The play options include Time Trial, Career Mode, Challenges, Tournament, Quick Race, and a host of online multiplayer modes.
Career Mode lets the player create a custom rider and start out in the 125cc Racing Class. The goal is to reach the top of the Championship class within five years. Winning races unlocks bonus content and upgrade points that can be used to improve a bike’s attributes. There are 50 Challenges that can be tackled which will also unlock bonus content.
There are three control schemes to choose from that run the range from simple arcade to highly customizable simulation. A tutorial session at the beginning of the game helps players decide which setting is best for them.
12 player online multiplayer is available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The Wii version allows player to use the Wii Remotes as handlebars to make the racing experience more realistic.
