Bust-a-Move 2 is the first sequel to the bubble bursting game Bust-a-Move. The game builds on the basic gameplay of the first title, including a deeper single player mode and a more elaborate multiplayer.
The player’s goal is to clear the screen by eliminating all the bubbles off the ceiling. They do so by shooting multicoloured bubbles from their pointer at the bottom of the play area, aiming to create sets of like-coloured bubbles. When a set of 3 or more identically coloured bubbles is created, that set disappears and drops any bubbles they were supporting. The new single player mode let’s players choose their next 5 stages from 2 sets of maps, leading to more varied gameplay and different endings. The multiplayer mode has been expanded to a tournament format that includes games against the computer.
The home ports of the game included additional features including a time trial mode that challenges the player to complete stages as quickly as possible and a set of alternate levels
