Fantasy is fiction that uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting and consistently pulls inspiration from real world mythology and folklore. It is generally distinguished by taking place in imaginary worlds and a lack of scientific themes. Although typically dominated by a medievalist form with dragons, knights, elves, dwarves, and sorcerers, fantasy follows rules of its own making and can take place anywhere.

Sub-themes
	High / Epic Fantasy	Emphasizes the use of extraordinary settings, characters, themes, or plot. It's rules operate differently from those of the real world.	Example: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Elden Ring
	Low / Intrusion Fantasy	Magical events intrude on an otherwise normal world. Emphasizes realistic environments with elements of the fantastical.	Example: Persona 5
	Fantasypunk	Normal items/things intrude on a fantasy world. Emphasizes the use of extraordinary settings and characters, but incorporates real-world items and inventions into the fantasy world.	Example: Final Fantasy XV Tales of Xillia 2
	Dark Fantasy	Incorporates darker and more frightening themes. It often contains elements of horror or has a gloomy, dark tone.	Example: Dragon Age: Origins The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
	Cute Fantasy	Common fantasy elements presented in a bright color palette, with a non-threatening atmosphere, and very little (if any) violence.	Example: Atelier Totori Botanicula
	Romantic Fantasy	Incorporates elements and conventions of the chivalric code with magical or psychic powers in a fantastical setting.	Example: Code: Realize Pandora's Tower
	Bangsian Fantasy	Concerns the use of famous literary or historical individuals and their interactions in real or imagined worlds.	Example: Code: Realize The Order: 1886
	Historical Fantasy	Mixes historic events with fantastical elements, figures and/or creatures from mythology and legends.	Example: Assassin's Creed Origins
	Accidental Travel / Isekai	An ordinary person or group of people is suddenly transported from their world into a new or unfamiliar one. Sometimes this is done via transport or rebirth in a different place and time, parallel universe, or fantasy world.	Example: Forspoken
	Sword and Sorcery	Characterized by sword-wielding heroes engaged in exciting and violent adventures. Elements of romance, magic, and the supernatural are often present. Though dramatic, they tend to focus on personal battles rather than world-endangering matters. Protagonists are often morally compromised and the lower stakes make this genre more plausible than the perils of epic fantasy.	Example: Golden Axe Conan Exiles
	Heroic Fantasy	Magic is prevalent and modern technology is non-existent. People are strong, beautiful, all life adventurous, and all problems are simple - easily fixed by a quest. Characters are more likely to be underdogs of humble origin placed in situations that force them to act in a heroic manner, past what is expected of them.
