Årets Spill
Årets Spill (Game of the Year) is the Norwegian gaming industry award. The award is a collaboration between the independent board game site BrettSpillGuiden.no and the publishers and distributors in Norway. The first year there were 4 categories, but the following year the Strategy category was discontinued. The main reason for this was that very few strategy games are translated into Norwegian and even fewer publishers were interested. The three categories remaining are Årets Barnespill (Children's game of the year), Årets Familiespill (Family game of the year) and Årets Selskapsspill (Party game of the year). From the start the object of the award has been to promote the new definition of family games, increase the quality of children's games as well as being a traditional award. It has a symbol of a squared board in gold. BrettSpillGuiden.no organizes the award and nominates 5 games in each category. And outside jury is then selected for each category, consisting of 6 jurors (3 from the general public and 3 journalists). The nominations are announced in late June, and the winners are announced in mid October. The physical award object is a diploma.
