1980 Games 100

This is the Games 100 List from 1980.

It is worthwhile to note that for the first year of the Games 100, the games were merely listed in alphabetical order, with no named Game of the Year, and no categories. As with other years of the Games 100, the list included items that were not necessarily produced in that year (e.g. Acquire had been in print for 18 years by the time of the 1980 Games 100, and had already passed from 3M to Avalon Hill). Additionally, this year included some items that were not games, and not solo puzzles (e.g. Capsela, Frisbee, etc.).

The three magazine categories for each item include entry level, playing time, and game type. The entry level for each item was classified as either easy, medium, or difficult. The playing times were written in either minutes or hours; however, some of the playing times have yet to be determined. The three game types included chance, strategy, and action.

Senet was originally listed as Passing Through The Netherworld. Furthermore, War of the Ring was incorrectly listed under the plural name of War of the Rings. It also appears that Sensory Chess Challenger 8 was incorrectly listed as Sensory Chess Challenger; different versions of this game have different programmers.

Public Domain games such as Go, Parcheesi, Shogi, and Passing Through The Netherworld were listed with the publisher stated in the original magazine article.
