The first four editions have essentially the same rules, but with expansion and refinement.

Mini Car Wars (1987) is a one-page promotional pamphlet released with very simplified rules.

The Fifth Edition simplifies game play greatly and only uses pre-designed cars,
resulting in a game that plays much faster, but without car customization.

New equipment from each issue is given Car Wars stats on the last page, although issue three's page was left-out and included in issue four.

The three volume series of Car Wars novels was published by Tor Books later in the 1990s.
