Miniatures are mainly used for table-top War Gaming, but are useful in playing Role-Playing games. They are made out of metal, plastic or resin, though you can get card cut-out ones (some free off the web). There are even miniatures which can be purchased pre-painted.

Miniatures come in a variety of scales including; 6mm (1/300), 10mm, 15mm, 20mm (H0/00), 25mm, 28mm, 32mm, 35mm, 42mm and 54mm. Twenty-five millimetre was popular in the 1970s and 80s, but have been replaced by 28mm (and creaping up to 32mm). Fifteen millimetre has made a resurgence in the last few years, 10mm is getting more popular and 35mm plastic miniatures are getting produced with board games.
